At least once a year at Cityview we intentionally pause and spend time reflecting and seeking God in a week of prayer. This is always a significant time of individual growth and refreshing, as well as spiritual renewal.
You can download the daily prayer guide here.
In the meantime, please consider consider what hour (or part of an hour) of each day you will be able to set aside to pray. Try to make it the same time each day as this will help you to develop a rhythm. Please email the prayer team which hour you’re signing up for so that we can be encouraged by seeing who is praying at any given time of the day. It doesn't matter if you double up but it would be great if someone was praying every hour of the day (I know it's possible as we have a number of night owls and insomniacs amongst us!)
I look forward to seeing how God moves amongst us and what He reveals to us over the week.
Cityview Week of Prayer: Apr 11-18, 2021
There are many ways to enter into Biblical meditative practice! Here are a few suggestions. You can try a different one each day, use the same one everyday, or something else that works for you.
Method 1:
First Reading: Enter
As you read this passage of scripture for the first time, you are simply “entering in” or familiarizing yourself with what God is saying here. Notice the circumstances, people, places, etc.
Second Reading: Impress
As you read the same passage for the second time, notice what word, phrase, sentence, or verse makes an “impression” upon you.
Third Reading: Pray
As you read the same passage for the third time, begin by spending a few minutes in prayer thanking and praising God for His Holy Word. As you read, be prayerfully interacting with God about the text.
Fourth Reading: Live
In this final reading of the passage, ask God to show you how He wants you to live based on this scripture. Is there something he would have you start doing, stop doing, or continue doing?
Method 2:
Read the passage through as many times as you need to memorize/remember it. Cover the passage, and use your own words to write out the passage.
Personalize it! Make this passage your own.
Method 3:
Ask the Philippians 4:8 Questions of the Text:
What is true about this, or what truth does it exemplify?
What is honorable about this?
What is just or right about this?
What is pure about this, or how does it exemplify purity?
What is lovely about this?
What is commendable about this?
What is excellent about this (that is, excels others of this kind)?
What is praiseworthy about this?
We hope these ideas might be helpful. Don't forget to send the prayer team your feedback throughout the week so I can share and encourage others.
